"I have always adored Christmas and have been known to listen to Christmas carols all year round! I really hope you enjoy this very different Christmas alsbum - from the beautiful 'Thorns in the Straw' to the exuberant 'Joy to the World'.
I trust that this album will evoke old memories and create new ones. Thank you to everyone who has taken part in the creation of these epic Christmas songs." Jonathan Veira
"Sometimes my life can seem like one long, fretful experience involving airports, motorways and stages! When thinking about what to put on this album and what to call it, journeys became the dominant theme. My experience of life and faith is like a continuous pilgrimage, encountering so much that is good and bad, happy, sad, fun and often hard. I feel that the songs on this opus reflect something of my own story and, I suspect, my future.
Working with such extraordinarily gifted musicians was the most fun I've had in years - times with the family excluded! I hope that these are songs that will resonate with you on your personal pilgrimage: perhaps I'll meet you along the way!" Jonathan Veira
Jonathan's 2007 recording published by ICC sees him in a blues / jazz / Gospel / funky mood and has plenty to get those feet tapping and hearts stirring. From the beautifully mellow 'All That Matters', helping us to get our priorities right in a needy world through a lively version of the Matt Redman classic, 'Blessed Be Your Name' to a calming rendition of the old hymn 'Take My Life And Let It Be' proving this prayer is as relevant today as ever, this CD has something for everyone.
The CD is the work of the combined talents of some great musicians who came together in September 2005 to record a 'live' album. Mark Edwards, Neil Costello, Phil Crabbe, Matt Weeks, Julie Costello, Mal Pope, Tracey Riggan and Bruce Pont all join with the rich voice of Jonathan Veira to produce an album which he hopes will move you, touch you and agitate you into finding out more of 'All that Matters' in your life.
From 'An Audience with Jonathan Veira' - CCMP CD-02
Anyone who has experienced being in the audience at one of these special evenings with Jonathan Veira will know that it is a treat not to be missed. Proving beyond doubt that JV is as versatile a singer and musician as you could hope to find, the songs on this CD reflect the diversity of his talent.
These songs are a selection of the songs that JV performs in his One Man Show. He has always enjoyed performing a wide variety of styles and on this album he gets the opportunity to enjoy himself and sing some of his favourite songs from Billy Joel to Gershwin to Puccini. The ever-popular 'Summertime' gives air to JV's piano skills as well as his voice which is then exercised to the full with Dinizetti's 'Me Voglio fa'na Casa'. Elton John's collaboration with Bernie Taupin to produce one of their most popular works 'Your Song' is given the unique JV treatment (listen below) while the jolly 'I Got Plenty of Nuttin'' (listen below) sees the character of this entertaining performer brought to the fore. The lively and fun 'Boogie Woogie', also arranged by JV, is followed by Randy Edelman's 'You'. The final track on the CD does the same as his last of the evening live... leaves you wanting more! Well, we would all echo the sentiments of 'Let There Be Love', wouldn't we! With another 5 tracks with just as much variety, more is exactly what you get. If you have been there, this will bring back some wonderful memories. If you haven't, you'll want to be!
Rhythms Of The Heart is an album of understated and natural arrangements, supplemented beautifully by a string quartet, natural piano and brass. Full of intimate and heartfelt performances, Jonathan mixes classic hymns such as How Great Thou Art and The Day Thou Gavest, with modern worship songs, many written by Paul Field. The album also features a beautiful song, 'The Promise of His Grace', written by Jonathan and Paul.
As a top operatic bass baritone, Jonathan Veira has performed for many of the world’s leading opera companies and with some of opera’s best known names. His amazing faith has always been very central to his career and his previous album, Life and Soul, helped to establish him as one of the most well-known and respected UK Christian artists. Jonathan’s tremendous personality and skills as a singer and entertainer ensure that he maintains a high-profile, balancing his operatic commitments with many appearances on BBC Songs of Praise as well as touring with his acclaimed One Man Show.
A beautifully produced and orchestrated CD with the undoubted highlight being a stunningly moving rendition of'King of Kings, Majesty'. Other songs include'You Put This Love', Stuart Townend's beautiful 'Pour Over Me', a delightful reworking of the classic hymn 'What A Friend We Have In Jesus' and a powerful reminder of the most amazing act of love the world has ever known that happened'On The Cross'. With another 6 songs all of an equally high standard as well as an extra MPEG file to view on your computer, this CD is proof enough of the fine talent that is Jonathan Veira!
This CD was recorded before 'Life & Soul' and is less orchestrated but definitely no less quality! With a somewhat 'unplugged' feel, the richness and diversity of Jonathan Veira's voice really shines through. Listen to 'King of Kings, Majesty' on this CD and you will appreciate the different flavour but the similar passion that comes through in both. 'We Are Marching' brings a totally different feel that will really get your feet tapping while other classic hymns such as 'How Great Thou Art' and'O Love That Wilt Not Let Me Go'retain that sense of awe that their amazing words and melodies possess. Another 8 tracks besides these make it a CD well worth listening to.
