Billy Budd - Royal Danish Opera November 2002

Billy Budd

In the latter part of 2002, Jonathan Veira took on arguably his most demanding role of his career so far, that of Claggert in Billy Budd with the Royal Danish Opera in Denmark.

Anyone who knows Jonathan knows his charming character and infectious sense of humour so playing the role of 'the baddie' was most certainly quite a departure from the norm for him!

However, as you will see from the reviews page, his performances were met with the same enthusiasm and acclaim as his previous roles and there is no doubt that JV's versatility has been proven once again as he adds Claggert to his repertoire! Here is just one of the reviews to prove the point! Read the rest on the Reviews page.

Dagen 21.10.02 (The Day, newspaper) Jakob Levinsen:
It is though the English veteran Jonathan Veira as Claggert, who steals big parts of the performance.

Not sure he'll like the 'veteran' bit though :o)
